Katey Sagal

Katey Sagal, an actress/singer who is exceptionally talented and adept in drama and comedy, became a household name when she appeared on Peg Bundy (Fox series Married... with Children 1987). During its lengthy run she received three Golden Globe and two American Comedy Award nominations. Peg Bundy might be well-known, but Katey was determined to continue her acting career after the show ended. Katey starred in other sitcoms as well as TV films. She played Gemma Teller Morrow in Sons of Anarchy (2008) as the matriarch of the Hell's Angels-like California biker clan. In 2011, her performance won her the Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an actress in the field of Television Series Drama. Catherine Louise Sagal was born on the 19th of January 1954, the daughter of director and singer Sara Zwilling and noted television and film director Boris Sagal. The Los Angeles native began performing at age 5 and trained in acting and voice at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California. A singing waitress in her "salad" times, she started singing with the group "The Group Without a name," then caught a break after hooking up with Gene Simmons and his 1970s rock band KISS. She also gained valuable experience as a backup record singer for Simmons and other stars like Bob Dylan and Etta James. She also was a dynamic performer live with the diva Bette Midler as one of her "Harlettes" in Bette's extravagant stage shows in the late 1970s and in the early 1980s.
