Katey Sagal
Katey Sagal, an actress/singer who is
exceptionally talented and adept in drama and comedy, became a household name
when she appeared on Peg Bundy (Fox series Married... with Children 1987).
During its lengthy run she received three Golden Globe and two American Comedy
Award nominations. Peg Bundy might be well-known, but Katey was determined to
continue her acting career after the show ended. Katey starred in other sitcoms
as well as TV films. She played Gemma Teller Morrow in Sons of Anarchy (2008)
as the matriarch of the Hell's Angels-like California biker clan. In 2011, her
performance won her the Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an actress
in the field of Television Series Drama. Catherine Louise Sagal was born on the
19th of January 1954, the daughter of director and singer Sara Zwilling and
noted television and film director Boris Sagal. The Los Angeles native began
performing at age 5 and trained in acting and voice at the California Institute
of the Arts in Valencia, California. A singing waitress in her
"salad" times, she started singing with the group "The Group
Without a name," then caught a break after hooking up with Gene Simmons
and his 1970s rock band KISS. She also gained valuable experience as a backup
record singer for Simmons and other stars like Bob Dylan and Etta James. She
also was a dynamic performer live with the diva Bette Midler as one of her
"Harlettes" in Bette's extravagant stage shows in the late 1970s and
in the early 1980s.
